Basics and upgrades

I had today off work and got so much done in the morning (dishes, tidying, toilet cleaning, bank meeting) that I was well worth a small shopping spree in the afternoon. I had a very specific shopping list that I followed with precision – I needed new slippers, basic t-shirts and a scrub and lotion for my so far very dry and sad summer skin.

The t-shirts are in a linen blend from H&M, the skincare is from & Other stories and were on 50% sale (win) and the slippers are Birkenstock's vegan version of the classic model 'Arizona'. Now I feel ready for holiday next week, but more about that in another post.

What I'm wearing in 10 years

I have two new favorites that I feel like I could wear forever and ever. It's a pair of grey Nike Pegasus '83 and a pair of vintage Levis jeans that fits perfectly. Both the sneakers and the jeans are so comfy. The jeans are so comfy that I actually fell asleep wearing them the other day!

Working in retail with vintage and second hand clothing has definitely got me thinking about how much stuff we buy just to wear it a couple of times before we through it away. An average of 163 kilos of textiles is purchased every hour in a medium Swedish city. Do we need that? The answer is no. Therefor I got a new rule; can I see myself wearing the item in 10 years? That means it has to be both classic and of good quality.

I'm also trying to buy more eco friendly beauty products, as this wash and lotion from H&M Conscious.

Look how green it is outside our kitchen window now! Today I'm off since I've been working the whole weekend. So far I've had breakfast and been to a Pilates class. Left to do is grocery shopping, then I'm just gonna do nothing for the rest of the day! Or wait, I'm going to watch Beyonce's Lemonade.

Havana Blues

Silk nightgown, vintage | Day & Night Serum, No7 | Citrus Hand Cream, Jurlique | Havana Blues Body Mist, & Other Stories | Notebook, COS | Bowl, made by me

Today I found the fragrance I've been looking for all my life and I'm not even joking. Last couple of years I've been getting more and more sensitive to different smells (maybe since I stopped smoking on a regular basis?) and therefor I find most perfumes too heavy. Add to that that I've always liked mens perfumes better then the sweet, fruity ones on the womens shelves. The Havana Blues Body Mist from & Other Stories smells of "Dry tobacco leaves withering among beloved jasmine and ripe lemon" and is simply perfect. P:s first reaction was "I can use this" so I guess I either have to hide it or start stocking up on them.

Purple hair and Ralph Lauren

newhair

I just colored my hair purple! Matching it with my vintage Ralph Lauren cashmere (lol). Now I'm gonna eat some pasta before heading out to buy a new notepad for my studies. Super exciting day, no?

Pink

Woke up hangover and alone (Peter had already gone to work) in a really messy flat and when I was making my morning toast I realized the bread was full of mold. To save this shitty day I painted my nails for the first time in months and decided to color my hair in something happy while taking a long (well, not that long because of the lack of water pressure) shower.

I went for pink. Then I made loads of coffee and decided to go into London city, aka Oxford circus, aka hell on earth. Who in their right mind would do such an awful thing while hangover? On a weekend? Well, I like walking around touching expensive stuff I can't afford. Destructive little me. Came home with candy colored candles (perfect alliteration), cheap H&M earrings and some new makeup which I might show you some other day.

Beauty routine pt 1

1. Wash, tone, moisturize

My skin is a troublemaker, one day it’s dry, the other it’s the opposite and in between its red and full of tiny, tiny bumps (my GP thinks it’s Rosacea). To keep it happy I try to keep it simple, as little products as possible with as few ingredients as possible. I wash it with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, an extremely unsexy face wash but very kind to sensitive skin. Then I spray my face with Avene Eau Thermal which might seem like a hocus product but to me it works as a sort of toner that cools down my skin if it’s irritated. On top of that I use Avene Antirougeurs Jour in the morning, or Cetaphil Moisturizer on extra sensitive spots but nothing at all at night.

2. Make-up

Maybe it's because my skin is as it is that makes it my greatest obsession. Apart from trying to make it as flawless as possible I don’t use much makeup at all. My number one skin savior is No 7's Hypo-allerginc Mineral Perfection in 'New Ivory' which I brush all over my face with a very soft brush. Almost all my brushes are from realTechnics at the moment.

My second obsession is my eyebrows which I dye every three weeks. I don’t do much plucking but I use a small scissor to keep them trimmed and in shape. Then I use a brow brush and instead of a brow shadow I use an eye shadow (tip from eyebrow expert Emilie Roslund). I use a No 7's shadow in 'Matte mocha'. I don't always wear mascara but if I feel like it I use No 7's Exceptional Definition which hands down is the best mascara I've ever had. Guess which my favorite make up brand is? Right, it starts with No and ends with 7.

On festive occasions I use different shades of eye shadow, like these (last picture) from Make up store in 'Muffin', & Other stories in 'Raisin Vapor' and Sephora in 'Desert Dune No 69'. I seldom wear blush since my cheeks tend to be pink anyway but I like the color of this one from Sephora in 'Orange pop No 17'.
