Remember last autumn when I took a ceramics course and was head over heels about pottery? Well, I've signed up for another course this autumn and can't wait to get back there! It's this one if anybody wants to join in.

My ceramics pt 1: The square plate and the pot

Today I went to the ceramics studio to finish glazing my large plate and bring some of my finished stuff home. Here's my square plate and my blue-green plant pot. 

Ceramics Thursday #5

Today I had my last ceramics class which ment some stressful three hours of painting and glazing everything in time. I used white or light grey glazes for most of my things but went all in COLORS on the large platter. Unfortunately I didn't know that it had to be fired a second time before you can put a final layer of transparent glaze on top of it. Though my great teachers told me just to come by next week to do it, while picking up my other finished pots and plates. So excited to see everything when it's finished!

Ceramics Thursday #3

I had my third pottery class today! I finished my cup and large platter, made a flower pot and admired my small white bowls from the first class. I've realized we're probably not going to do any throwing in this course, but next time my teacher promised me we're gonna start glazing. 

Now I'm home drinking tea and studying for tomorrows exam. Nerrrvous.

Ceramics Thursday #2

Today I had my pottery class again! It's in Surrey Quays which is a very weird place, for example the only place I found to buy a cup of coffee in the morning was Mc Donald's. But the ceramics studio is nice however.

Here's all the small bowls I did last time, next time they're hopefully going to be glazed.

This time we didn't do throwing as I'd hoped, but instead of pinching as we did last time, we tried out two new techniques, casting and coiling. I did a large platter, a smaller square plate and a tea cup using different casts. The general feeling after each class so far is that I should be doing this for a job, everyday, for the rest of my life. I feel happy and tired but calm, something I haven't experienced for a long time. Now all I want is to move to the country side and start my own ceramics studio.

Ceramics Studio Co-op: Ceramics Thursday #1

Today I had my first pottery class at Ceramics Studio Co-op! I was welcomed by this tapestry saying "Utopia is not in the past".

The class was just me, two fashion designers who both claimed that they were fed up with fashion and the fashion industry, a student of architecture and a former art teacher.

Some of the artists that worked in the same space or in the room next door did really nice things.

Today we did hand-building and pinching with terracotta clay. I managed to do three small bowls and two small plates. Next time we might get to use the pottery wheels and the technique called "throwing". Plus starting to experiment with glazes and oxides. So excited!

I just signed up for a 5 weeks ceramics and pottery course this autumn! So, so excited. When I told my grandmother about it she laughed and said that I was supposed to be the young one of us two. But ceramics nowadays is definitely not old fashion and boring. Just look at the ones above!
