The Guide to my Neighborhood, pt 2

FOOD

230 Dalston Lane

Wine bar with fantastic food and wine on tap to bring home. The space is also amazing if you're into airy industrial spaces, which I'm guessing you are (well, at least I am).

The brunch at Verden E5 is just sheer perfection. You walk in there with a hangover and come out refreshed by both the clean interior, the freshly squeezed orange juice and the poached eggs with creamy hollandaise. I've mentioned this place a couple of times before, for example when I was there with my sister and bought this book.

The Bonneville Tavern is like something out of Harry Potter but with great food and coctails. The atmosphere is perfect for the autumn/winter part of the year, and the toilets... I'm not going to say anymore, you just have to go there to find out!

FLOWERS

This flower shop is so pretty you would want to live in it. Best for green plants, succulents and small ceramic pots. And have a look at the art on the walls as well, it's often both great and affordable and changes from time to time.

64-66 Brooksby's Walk

Rebel Rebel is the opposite of Botany even if the two are just a block apart. Rebel Rebel is loud, colorful and best for fresh cut flowers and bouquets. It's situated in Eat17, an organic food shop and bakery, which is also well worth a visit.

COFFEE

145 Chatsworth Road

This coffee shop with great Swedish-infused food and pastry is super friendly and homely. People are bringing their laptops, dogs, babies and just hangout for hours. When you're too full to have anymore gubbröra or chokladbollar, have a walk down through Millfields park and take a stroll by the canal. If you're curious, I've mentioned Cooper & Wolf in a post earlier, have a look here.

Something new

I just made it a month without buying anything new, then I found this and I couldn't resist. Do you know what it is? Clue 1, clue 2.

Breakfast, lunch, a secret, a car and a restaurant

Yesterday I woke up late before a breakfast of a little bit of this and that I found in the fridge. My stomach isn't back to normal just yet so I'm trying to eat healthy and plant based. Strawberries, blueberries, avocado, sugarsnaps, an egg and two small pieces of sourdough bread with cream cheese. After breakfast I took a long well deserved shower.

Around lunch I headed out to Black Cat, a very nice and unpretentious vegan café in our neighborhood. I had an avocado sandwich while working on something that's gonna happen later this week. Wish me luck on that cause I'll need it.

I spent a good few hours at Black Cat before going grocery shopping and heading back home to cook (seems like my days are mostly about food) for Peter. I made sea bass in foil parcels with veggies and a ginger basil sauce, but forgot to take any photos. After dinner we took a long walk in the rain and passed this cute car.

We also walked passed this place that might not look it from the outside, but the inside looks amazing. Simple with great wooden floors, wooden tables and stools. Definitely trying this out soon, it's a Japanese restaurant called Uchi.

I'm off work today as well so I'll check in later. Happy Monday!

What to wear this fall

I've spotted a few (ten to be precise) trends that I really like for fall 2016, so here they come in a good old list.

1. First out, pink!

2. Frayed denim. Will I ever get bored of this trend? I think not.

3. Tassels. This is a wild card, but I like tassels so much more in fashion than in interior design (in which I don't like them at all).

4. It's not fall without a great oversized coat. PS The red one is amazing.

5. The full suit.

6. Oversized shirts are still hanging in there.

7. Chunky knits, even better paired with a summer dress.

8. Cozy sets screaming bored house wife in the 80's <3

9. Leopard is back!

10. Red! Great in combination with beige.

Stranger things

I've just binged all episodes of 'Stranger things' on Netflix and oh my how I loved that series. It's the perfect mix of 80's highschool drama and 80's horror movie. Like 'Stand by me' meets 'E.T.' and 'X-files'. The actors (Winona Ryder <3) are better than in any series I've watched lately and add to that most of the actors are like 10 years old.

The plot is focusing on this young boys gang of friends that loves science and Dungeons & Dragons role playing and the small town in which they all live – Hawkins. One night after one of the boys loses the role playing battle against the Demogorgon monster he disappears into the woods and a similar monster is prime suspect. Is he dead or has he vanished into a parallell reality, a vale of shadows? There's also an evil part of the government that does sensory depravation tests on children, a drunk cop, a neurotic mum, quite a lot of highschool romance and a kickass young female superhero. If you haven't already – watch it.

Other tv series I've watched and loved:

Wishes • August

Ok, hands up – who doesn't treat themselves to some shopping when they feel miserable? I know I do and I know it's not a very constructive way of dealing with pain or sadness. But sometimes you just don't care, I know it sounds harsh but it's the truth. Sometimes you don't care about being poor for the rest of the month, for the fact that you already have everything you need or for the fact that the shit you're buying probably is produced under the worst conditions and maintains our capitalistic society. Or you do care, but you do it anyway. Does that make us bad people? All those questions you ask yourself on a Tuesday night.

Acid

I hope you had a better weekend then mine. Parts of it were great, but most of the time I had the worst stomach cramps and heartburn. I get this thing where my stomach produce to much acid if I'm stressed – or if my body is stressed. Sometimes those two doesn't seem to relate to each another.

Anyway, Peter's best friend and his girlfriend were visiting from Sweden which was really fkn bad timing. They wanted to enjoy the weather and have maximum fun in the few days they were here and I couldn't even enjoy going out for dinner. And you know when you end up feeling bad, like it's your fault that you're sick. All you want to do is to be able to take care of your guests but you can't and you feel like shit.

The picture above is from Thursday night on my way to meet them, before I knew what was ahead of me. Wearing my old sunnies from Monki.

Men not allowed beyond this point

Today started off with menstrual cramps from absolute hell. I dragged myself around the flat in my leopard sweatpants for a while, feeling so very sorry for myself. Then I got my shit together and took the overground to Hampstead Heath and ladies pond, aka heaven on earth.

If you happen to be a woman and you're in London on a sunny day – go there. It was truly an amazing experience. Me and my friend Sannah swam for a good 15 minutes (with baby ducks!), before we had a topless picnic and talked about life and 100 things to do before you die, for hours. Excellent Sunday.

When we got our rings

Yesterday me and P were off work, fair enough since we're both working today. We woke up pretty hangover after The Strongrooms annual free bar event in Shoreditch the day before, but decided to go to pick up some clothes at my job. I got this almost fluorescent dress in a 60's fabric, probably sewn later then that though cause the stitching looks newer.

I also got this crazy race team t-shirt and (not pictured) a pair of Victoria Secret leopard printed sweatpants, a striped denim maxi dress, a pair of Wrangler's stonewashed mum jeans and an oversize sweater with "DARE" written all over the chest. I've decided to stop buying new things which in a weird way got me super inspired when it comes to shopping. Second hand is so much fun.

After our little shopping spree we walked down to Ivy's for sandwiches and coffee and Sanpellegrino blood orange.

After lunch we took the bus down to Haggerston and Charlotte Day at Ivy Nixon to get our rings that finally was ready for pickup! I truly recommend her for any jewellery, especially bespoke.

Look at this ring perfection! We wanted something minimal and modern and I think she captured that pretty spot on. They're identical in everything except size which apparently is pretty unusual.

Then we walked home by the canal. Someone's been putting these massive but truly great posters up around Hackney lately, making ordinary walls unexpectedly beautiful.

Love this.

Then we walked through London Fields where the poppies were in bloom.

And passed Hackney Town Hall where there was confetti on the ground from a previous wedding.
